A Bike and a Hike
We pedaled furiously while the wind threatened to sweep us away. The gusts assaulted us, using its force to push our bikes off kilter. However, we stood strong, pushing on our handlebars in order to attempt to stay straight. I loved it. I loved the challenge the wind provided. I loved the competition. And I loved the fact that I loved something many would not enjoy.
The 80s, bikers’ sunglasses I was wearing made me not only look funky, but it also enriched the colors of everything I saw. The grass was a very deep green. The kind of green you find in a tropical rain forest. And the large clouds in the distance were a pure white with strips of gray, dark gray, and black. I could easily see the three dimensional, puffy aspect of the cloud. It was as if I could see every indentation, outcropping, and feature of the clouds.
After the short ride, we headed out to Shenandoah National Park for a nice, weekend hike. The fire road seemed endless - it’s a lot shorter when you’re running it, like I did a few weeks ago. We walked, talked, and finally reached the trailhead. The trail is not a light one at the start. It immediately heads up for at least a mile. Passing gardens of light-colored rocks, the gorgeous mountains that surround the area are clear to the right of us. We laboriously trek upward. Our topics of conversation touched on pokemon, elementary school, and pets while the wind bit at any bit of skin it could. After about an hour and a half, we finally reached the car. We wasted no time and immediately hopped into the BMW with black leather interior.
All in all, it was a rewarding day of exercise, nature, and pure beauty.
