My name is Matthew and I love, love, love, love, love running (the verb and the gerund). Everything to do with it, I love. The painful feeling of being drained, the heightened endorphins, the training, the coaching, the racing, and the gear (Short shorts or gtfo). I did XC and track year round for 3 years in H.S., and now I'm just running freely in college. I ran my first ultra (50k) February 2012 and it was FANTASTIC. I'll definitely do more in the future.

I'm also a vegetarian wanting to go vegan eventually.

Besides running, I love oreos, water, movies, reading, hanging out with my friends, chips ahoy, feeling clean, going shirtless around the house, colorful things, etc.

Road Biking V-card

So at 3:15, I met with my friend Emma to walk to her house to go biking. Emma took me to the ultra with her, along with her boyfriend Nat and Adam. I got closer to all of them, and Nat said I could use his road bike and shoes to go riding with Emma sometime. Nat is an AWESOME guy, and it’s really cool he was so open to letting me ride his bike. He said he doesn’t really ride it much anyway.

So we got there, and his shoes fit perfectly! His bike has clipless pedals (pedals you have to clip into which is an ironic name but whatev), so I had to use his shoes and learn how to clip in and out. We went out to their backyard and then a parking lot to practice, and I basically had it down. I fell down once in the grass, but no biggy.

Then her friend Eric met up with us and then we were off! I really like riding my bike with cars as if I’m a car in the road because it just feels fricken awesome to be like a car but cooler and better! Once we got out of the neighborhoods, we started getting onto some country roads. This was nice since there were less cars and we could ride abreast. Eric is semi-pro or will be semi-pro, and he is a super nice and cool guy, so that was awesome. Emma was really impressed at how quickly I got clipping in and out down as well as staying in a line. We road for about an hour and did 11 miles.

I really enjoyed it, and it was beautiful to see the sunset while biking on country roads with cows nearby. I can’t wait to have my own bike and ride with my sister and do races and be legit and just have awesome rides. erfklhjasldkfjdh ROAD BIKING.

Hey, running, don’t you worry. I still love you more! <3
