Plan: wake up tomorrow at 7am for a calm, morning...
At first my thinking was this: What I SHOULD do: Wake up at 7 for a run What I FEEL like doing: staying in bed However, now I look at it like this: This run shall wake me up in more than one way. I will have a very pleasant mindset when I breathe in the fresh air while blood courses through my veins. My mind, body, and soul shall be awoken by the activity. It is my morning meditation. It is my...

I love water.
One of the most incredible feelings is DOWNING an entire bottle of water in one go. It feels so smooth as it wets my throat and rejuvenates my body. It is my lifeline. My “phone-a-friend” whenever my body is not feeling optimal.

Damn cats!
I am allergic to cats. I was at my dad’s for over a week. My dad has two cats. What happens when I’m with cats for a while? Runny nose Stuffed nose Nasal congestion Congestion in my throat Green phlegm Wheezing (throat closes up a bit) forcing me to use an inhaler everyday Even though I’m back at home, the cat shit has not fully gotten out of my system. What does all...

17 miler? WHADDUP
Yesterday I was at my Aunt’s house for a Hanukkah party with the family. There were a butt load of people there, and it was so much fun. I woke up at 7:30am to go on my long run on the Washington and Old Dominion trail (W & O.D.). Maura was to accompany me for 6 miles, then I was on my own. We ran out the door at around 8:30, and started the run. It was cold as shit and my hands were...

Love the Pain
(too long? don’t wanna read? Skip to the second to last paragraph.) This past Friday, I went out for a run at about 2:30pm. It was very cloudy, and a very light rain was hitting the ground. I set out with short shorts, a shirt, and sock-gloves. The goal was 8 miles, and I was pretty excited to run. I stayed smart in the beginning and started out at a good pace. However, I did continue...

Midnight Barefoot Run
While doing some stretching on my dorm floor, I took a long look at the bottom of my feet. The heel, balls, and outside of my arch were all a darker brown while the inside of my arch remained my natural complexion. Suddenly, I had a thought. Connor and I had been talking about going on a barefoot run sometime, but we never actually did. This time, I immediately texted him and asked if he would...

Doing some strength training.
I finished my exam and was bored, so I started stretching. Then I did some abs and squats and stuff. I haven’t done this for sooooo long. I still think it’s unnecessary and receive your strength from practical things like running or climbing and not outside training, but it makes you feel so alive :)

NEVER rush a run.
If you’re in a hurry, forget it. Nothing else matters when you are running. The past has happened and can’t be changed. The future cannot possibly exist since it will never be, so there is only now. Remember that on your run.

Running Update
Ran today on Massanutten mountains. It gets pretty technical at times and it was interesting to run with the leaves covering everything. Idk how many miles. At least 8. Way behind on training schedule. Whatever. Might have tendonitis in my knee, but whatevs. I’ll roll with the punches. At the very least, it feels much better when I’m running :P P.S. There was snow. It was cool.

My Knee Hurts.
It REALLY hurts. Every movement, every bend, ever fricken step. It’s getting really annoying now. Theory why: I have been running a lot less frequently than usual and more sporadically. Some runs, I run with the same intensity I ran with a while ago. This same intensity (or longer distance) plus the sporadic and infrequent running = bad knee. However, I will do my best to ignore such injury...

Hit by a Car
Forizzles. Today, I was hit by a car. Hit may not be the best word to use. Perhaps “bump” or “love tap” is more accurate. I was running and approaching a crosswalk which is short (in distance) and not major. I saw that the crosswalk showed the “white man,” allowing me to go across. I saw that the cars were stopped, so I didn’t slow down even a bit. As...

Narrowback Trail
With a goal of completing my first ultramarthon, I have my sights on the Holiday Lake 50k. Along with me, my friend Em is training as well. Her father has equipped us with a simple training plan - run 3 days a week with one very long run. Sounds easy enough. Last Thursday, I texted Em, an upperclassmen, to see if she wanted to run this weekend. She notified me she was planning a 15 mile trail run...

Lactic Acid Myth
I need to make a post about this. Lactic acid does NOT cause muscle soreness. In science, people believe things to be true. Later, they find out what they thought was true was actually dumb and wrong. Your lactic threshold is the point at which your body witches over from aerobic (with oxygen) respiration to anaerobic (without oxygen) respiration. Your body used up its oxygen, so it must now...
